CØLLECTIVE – THE. ÆIGHT.CØLLECTIVE
#aeightbikeco – In racing, (as in training) by working together, several riders can be faster than the individual. The Cøllective is a brotherhood of riders on different clubs and teams who race and ride together to improve their results collectively…if you’d like to race with us then get in touch via the details below.
RIDERS – GLEN.WHITTINGTON
#aeightracer – Glen rides for the Southborough & District Wheelers. He races mountain bikes, road bikes, TT and ‘cross at local and national level. He receives personal support from Helly Hansen, Vee Tire Co, Wildside Cycles, and the.æight.bicycle.cømpany @eightbikeco #aeightracer
RIDERS – PIP.JENKINS
Pip races Road and TT at local and National level. In the last two years she’s developed from a background in Triathlon to one of the best riders in her club, taking three club records and eight Open TT wins along the way. She races all distances including 12-hour (PB 260 miles) and has designs on Stage Racing in the UK.
RIDERS – CAMERON.PREECE
Cameron raced his first season of ‘Cross in 2016/17 and finished 10th overall in the Juniors – he’ll be looking to improve on that in the 2017/18 season. He’s also started gaining experience racing on the road – in 2018 he’s going to busy balancing school with racing and we’ll be here to help with the latter!
FRAMES – THE.ÆIGHT.MANUFACTØRY
#aeightmanufactory – I started building frames in 2008 and I’ve now got to a point at which I feel comfortable saying I know what I’m doing. There’s still a lot to learn which is why I’m starting to build race frames that can be tested in a closed environment. I’ve no interest in selling them and that’s what makes them special – they’re race frames that are designed to be raced and then improved. If you share this passion then please get in touch using the details below.
CLUBS – SOUTHBOROUGH.&.DISTRICT.WHEELERS
Glen, Pip and Cameron’s club, Southborough & District Wheelers is a long established cycling club based in Tunbridge Wells. Members take part in a broad range of cycling activities including time trials, road and circuit racing, sportives, triathlons and cyclo-cross. Te are also regular social and training rides around Kent, Sussex and further afield. Southborough is a Go-Ride cycle club where riders of all ages and abilities are very welcome.
SUPPORT – HELLY.HANSEN
Born by the sea. Raised by the mountains. Trusted by professionals. Designed by Scandinavia. Confident when it matters.
We don’t just race – we ride our bikes all over the world in all weathers. Helly Hansen have been with me whilst riding through the Southern Alps of New Zealand, helped me stay warm at three thousand meters whilst in the Rockies and keep me dry on my local trails in #sweetsussex
SUPPORT – WILDSIDE CYCLES
The workshop caters for all riders from the occasional mountain biker to the hardcore roadie and everything in between. Custom building, wheel building, while-you-wait-tweaks and general services are always available.
The shop has a fine array of stock and custom bikes from the likes of Colnago, Specialized and Cannondale. We also have a BG Fit/Retul bike-fitting service using the latest technology along with years of combined experience to ensure that your bike fits you perfectly.
EQUIPMENT – LAZER.HELMETS
Sinds 1919. One of the oldest protection brands in the world, Lazer started ot making leather “hairnets” for Belgian Hardmen in the early 1900’s and are now the European market leader. Producing helmets for many of the finest cycling teams Lazer Sport stays at the forefront of technology by constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
EQUIPMENT – ADIDAS.EYEWEAR
We use it because it works – Adidas Sport Eyewear
EQUIPMENT – SHIMANO.TRANSMISSION
Shimano really needs no introduction – We use it because it works, better than everything else, all of the time.
EQUIPMENT – FOX.SUSPENSIONS
For over three decades, FOX has been an industry leader in the design and development of high performance shock absorbers and racing suspension products. In 1974, Bob Fox started racing his products in motocross and we haven’t stopped racing since.
Mojo in the UK customise all of our suspension and even though we can strip and rebuild suspension in the workshop and at races nothing beats a freshly tuned set of forks from the UK’s best in suspension servicing.
EQUIPMENT – PRAXIS WORKS
Praxis represents a part of the market that’s been missing for years. Producing single rings, doubles, BB’s, cranks and other parts that you can use to upgrade your bike, Praxis Works allows you to build and modify your bike your way.
EQUIPMENT – VEE.TIRE.CO
Vee Tire Co have built a reputation in the industry for creating many of the best tyres out their for other brands – One day they asked themselves, “why don’t we make awesome tyres for ourselves?” So they did and the results are incredibly fast and grippy. We took a while to be convinced but having carried out our own testing they blew the competition away in all respects – we’ll keep up the testing through 2017/18 and keep you posted!
GOT WHAT IT TAKES?
For 2018 we’re looking for one or two other riders to be on our race team. The Collective is about doing things a little differently. We’re looking to kit our riders out with steel race bikes made in Sussex. Whether that’s for ‘cross, road, crit, TT or mountain bike we’re offering the chance to have a custom steel bike made for you to race on – not just put together, but fully bespoke. Sometimes is it may not be everything to do with the bike, but it goes a long way to helping you achieve your goals.
The best part is that we’re not asking you to leave your team or club and that includes racing in club/team kit. We’ve got certain brands that we’d like to work with, but we’re open to suggestions and maybe you’ve got a sponsor or support that you could bring to the table?
We have some strict qualifying criteria but don’t be put off by this – if you’re interested in being part of our c ø l l e c t i v e then please get in touch by emailing your racing CV to firstname.lastname@example.org
